Guangzhou’s 27th International Travel Fair concluded in late February, and boy-oh-boy, it was a doozy.
The three-day event was an absolute blast, with representatives from all over the world showcasing the fresh, fun ideas that continue to strengthen travel tourism around the world.
Here are six things you missed out on at the 27th Guangzhou International Travel Fair…
1. 55 countries and regions represented at the travel fair

The three-day event welcomed representatives from 1,042 enterprises, spanning 55 countries and regions around the world. This year, the f saw more countries participate than in 2018, highlighting a growing interest in tourism in the Greater Bay Area.
2. Five new countries joined in 2019

Finland, Venezuela, Iran, Mongolia and Fiji attended the event for the first time, adding new energy to the fair, as these countries got a chance to display their appeal to a global audience. Fiji and Venezuela both boast beautiful beaches that are well worth a visit. Meanwhile, Finland, Iran and Mongolia each offer a bevy of cultural traditions and scenery for travelers to enjoy.
3. RMB156 million in transactions during the fair

There’s arguably no better way to spend money than on travel, and the Guangzhou International Travel Fair highlighted that point. With 182,000 professionals and tourists attending, travel agencies had the perfect opportunity to introduce some amazing travel deals to interested passersby.
4. ‘So Sri Lanka’: Sri Lanka played host to the travel fair

This year Sri Lanka was named the host country of the exhibition. The South Asia nation is also a strategic partner of China’s ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.
Sri Lanka is considered an exciting and unique tourist destination, with 13 percent of the country’s land surface designated as wildlife protection areas. National parks, beaches and zoological gardens, among other features, combine to make Sri Lanka an authentic tourist experience.
5. New Guangzhou flights announced

Exhibitors from RwandAir and Mongolian Airlines announced that direct flights to Guangzhou will be launched in the first half of this year. Rwanda, located in East-Central Africa, is known as the ‘land of a thousand hills’ and boasts natural beauty along with rare animal species like the mountain gorillas. Mongolia offers a wide range of exciting outdoor activities, such as reindeer riding, canoeing down the nation’s major rivers and some scrumptious boodog (goat and marmot barbecue).
6. More convenient travel to some of the world’s best tourist destinations

At the 27th Guangzhou International Travel Fair, over a dozen countries, including the likes of Austria, Spain, Australia and the United Arab Emirates introduced more convenient and mutually beneficial travel methods for adventurous tourist to check out. Thanks in part to the Greater Bay Area Plan, Guangzhou and surrounding cities have garnered the interest of countries worldwide to enhance tourism and cultural exchange, turning a new page in South China tourism.
