Guangzhou is famous for its traditional flower markets that pop up every year around Spring Festival. It’s one of the main reasons the city has earned the epithet ‘The City of Flowers.’ To help you get the most out of CNY flower displays, we’ve assembled a list of flower markets where a blossoming spring awaits!
1. Liwan Lake Park
The scenic shores of Liwan Lake Park will host a CNY flower market this year, while traditional food and craft markets will also be held around the lake. Additionally, traditional Cantonese dance troupes will put on a range of shows to entertain visitors.
Jan 29-Feb 3; free entry. Liwan Lake Park.
2. Tianhe Sports Center
One of the biggest in scale, the flower market at Tianhe Sports Center boasts a total of 468 stalls for visitors to browse through, including bonsai, flower sprays, goldfish, CNY gifts and more.
Feb 2-3, 8.30am-midnight, Feb 4, 8.30-2am; free entry. Tianhe Sports Center.
3. Yuexiu District
Having flourished in Guangzhou for more than a century, the Yuexiu District Flower Market is believed to be the longest running fair of its kind in the city. This year’s event will host a “giant flowerbed,” which is being touted as the highlight of the market.
Feb 2-4; free entry. Xihu Lu and Jiaoyu Lu (Exit D, Gongyuanqian Metro Station) 西湖路和教育路.
4. Haizhu District
Located on Bingjiang Xi Lu, the Haizhu District Flower Market will offer curious shoppers and passersby a selection of handicrafts, bonsais and colorful flowers. Stretching over 1 kilometer, this floral bazaar runs along the south bank of the Pearl River.
Feb 2-5, 8.30am-midnight; free entry. Bingjiang Xi Lu (from Renming Bridge to Jiefang Bridge) 滨江西路 (人民桥到解放桥路段).
5. Liwan District
Billed as the largest flower market in town, Liwan’s esteemed flower market boasts over 300 stalls. Expect flowers (like, lots and lots of flowers) and festive trinkets.
Feb 2-3, 8.30am-midnight; Feb 4, 8.30-2am. Liwan Lu (Exit D, Chen Clan Academy Metro Station) 荔湾路.
6. Panyu Square
From January 30 to February 4 over 200 stalls selling CNY gifts and flowers will spread out across Panyu Square. Holiday shoppers can expect Chinese artwork, chunlian (Spring Festival couplets), dried fruits and CNY decorations.
