One person is dead and eight others injured after a knife attack occurred in Humen town, Dongguan on Monday, January 14.

The attack took place at around 7.40pm in Dongguan’s Huaide District and the suspect, surnamed Qin, has been detained by local police.

All of the injured individuals have been hospitalized, with two in critical condition.

The horrific attack can be seen in the video below (VPN off):

According to an official announcement published by the local public security bureau following the incident, police have ruled out the possibility that this was a terrorist attack but are still looking into the case for further details.

Another almost identical incident occurred later that same night at around 8.30pm near a bridge in Fuzhou, Fujian province, where a man killed one and injured 19 pedestrians. The Fuzhou Public Security Bureau has yet to release a statement in response to the attack. They have, however, reposted a report on Weibo that indicates that the suspect, who is 48 years old, had been in a romantic conflict prior to the attack. He escaped from the scene of the crime by jumping off the nearby bridge and as of press time (5.35pm CST) police have yet to track him down.

These two tragic happenings come just one week after a mallet-wielding man turned up at a primary school in Beijing, injuring 20 students.
