The Modern Maori Quartet presents classic Maori art and waiata music made using modern techniques. The group proudly displays the great Maori band traditions that originated in their homeland of New Zealand in the 1950s and ’60s. Often referred to as the ‘modern-day Rat Pack,’ their show is composed of elegant harmonies, remarkable stage presentation and the transboundary humor of the four Maori gentlemen.

Fri, Oct 19: OZMA @ Zhile Art Space
Jazz ensemble OZMA is set apart by their unique blend of jazz, electro-trance and ‘greasy’ rock. Their music exhibits energy, openness and freedom through groovy compositions and formidable teamwork. The French quintet have released a total of six albums and have performed over 300 times worldwide since winning the prestigious International Jazz Competition in Paris in 2006.

Sat, Oct 20: Wushisan @ Brasston

Wushisan has collaborated with a variety of awesome beatmakers, including Stawberry Papa, Joy Ginger and Eddie Beatz. He brings his conscious hip hop to Brasston this weekend as part of a tour in support of his new album Graphic. Catch him and DJ Ores performing for one evening only in what should be a great concert.

Sun, Oct 21: COLLAPSE @ SD Livehouse

Tokyo band Collapse have been making and publishing music since 2014. Their particular sound pertains towards shoegaze and incorporates a twisting guitar wall of sound. Their most recent EP Delirium Poetry was released at the beginning of this year. Head down to SD Livehouse to catch up with this fantastic band.

Mon, Oct 22: GLDN @ SD Livehouse
Another Japanese act to hit SD Livehouse this weekend, GLDN, are known for their laid-back charming blues. End of the Road, their third release, came out at the end of last year and brought with it more than a hint of the drawl that made Serge Gainsbourg such a romantic hero. This show is the perfect way to spend a romantic evening or date.
