Forests hold a special position in Taiwan’s indie rock scene: they're one of the few bands on the island that insist on singing in English. St. Petersburg-based Mariinsky Theatre is to stage the epic and majestic opera War and Peace at the Guangzhou Opera House. Based on Tolstoy’s well-acclaimed novel, the two-act opera by composer Sergei Prokofiev boasts nearly 70 solo roles and dazzling choral content. Come for the superb cast that mixes new and experienced singers, or to brush up on your Russian.

Sat, Aug 4: Zapata’s Beach Party
Beach parties at Zapata’s are back this Saturday to celebrate the Mexican eatery’s anniversary.
