Marathon runners, it's time to prep your gear and get yourself into training mode.
The 2018 Guangzhou Marathon will be held December 9, 2018. Online registration will open in the next few days, according to China's General Administration of Sport.
The first Guangzhou Marathon was held on November 18, 2012. Though it has a relatively short history in the city, the annual race has steadily gained traction both locally and internationally. Last year, 71,965 people signed up, according to official statistics. 30,000 contestants representing 48 different countries and regions were eventually allowed entry via a lottery system, with 18,000 participating in the full marathon and 12,000 in the half marathon.
This year, while the total number of contestants will still be capped at 30,000, the organizing committee anticipates more ambitious runners, and has therefore allocated 20,000 spots for the full marathon and 10,000 for the half marathon.
The race course is expected to run alongside the Pearl River, passing by various city landmarks and historical sites such as the Canton Tower, Canton Fair Complex, Sun Yat-sen University and more.
Although the website has yet to go live, here's the link to sign up for the marathon once registration opens.
