Fans of ska-punk rejoice! Incoming are Shanghai based ragamuffins Underdog, who bring with them a reputation for being wild, easy on the ears and a bucketload of fun. They have fast garnered a sterling reputation around China’s underground music scene, playing with the likes of Dirty Fingers and, this weekend, Guangzhou’s own Landfills. Catch them performing tunes from their debut, self-titled release.

Fri, Jun 29: Pinboard @ SD Livehouse
In the wake of the release of their excellent EP Shock!, local Guangzhou band Pinboard recently set out on a small national tour, bringing the sounds of southern punk to our neighbors up north. This weekend, the group returns to Guangzhou for an evening at SD Livehouse. Don’t miss this chance to take in their old-school punk and highly energetic stage presence.

Sat, Jun 30: Lonely Leary @ 191 Space
Embarking on their first national tour after the release of their long-awaited debut album on Beijing label Maybe Mars, Lonely Leary team up with awesome local band Nouvelle for an evening of chunky and vicious rock 'n' roll. Hailing from Shandong province, Lonely Leary quickly gained critical and fan acclaim upon relocating to Beijing with local legends like Alpine Decline and Yang Haisong from PK14 amongst their fans.

Sat, Jun 30: DJ Kentaro @ In.Side Club
Purportedly the godfather of DJs in Japan, DJ Kentaro first established his career on the back of his stunning turntable skills, which saw him win the DMC World DJ Championship when he was just 20. In the years since, Kentaro has played such hallowed stages as Coachella in the US and Fuji Rock in his home country. He also opened his own DJ school in 2015 in Japan. Make sure to catch his stunning drum ’n’ bass sound this Saturday night in Guangzhou.

Sat, Jun 30: Special Youngster @ 020 Club
While the south of China is certainly not short on music festivals, rarely are fans of electronic music given the opportunity to catch some of their favorite Chinese acts in the one place. This weekend, 020 Club bring their second iteration of Special Youngster to Guangzhou, with appearances from talented DJs and producers, such as Danny Kids, Boom Girl and more.

Sat, Jun 30: Sophie Zelmani @ Guangzhou Friendship Theater
Sophie Zelmani’s take on contemporary and alternative folk has brought her fans worldwide since she started releasing music in 1995. Her song ‘Going Home’ was previously covered by popular Chinese singer Faye Wong in 2003 and her music has appeared in numerous TV shows and films down through the years, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek and Independence Day.
