Mon, Jun 25: Joce Minniel
French flutist Joce Mienniel is adept at communicating emotions in hypnotic, electrified tones. His ensemble is composed of musicians who take unique approaches to their respective instruments, from a powerful drummer to a guitarist with a broad and expansive sound to a keyboard player who plays with texture and detail.

Tue, Jun 26: Almeeva
Frenchman Gregory Hoepffner, aka Almeeva, is a multi-instrumentalist and video producer who is trying to construct his own musical aesthetic with independent, post-modern imagery. His second EP Oblite is filled with reflections on the November 2015 Paris attacks. Almeeva’s live performances are similarly intense: He plays guitar, grabs the mic on occasion and uses a drumstick to create beats, all while keeping a synthesizer close at hand.

Thu, Jun 28: Buggy Moment Quartet
Buggy Moment Quartet are four friends from Guangzhou’s finest musical institute, the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. The quartet focus on following in the footsteps of guitar legend Pat Metheny, and mix jazzy tunes with rock, Latin and classical music. Catch their live performance at Dongfang Wende Plaza.

Thu, Jun 28: Eptic and Skism
Eptic is brimming with personal style, and excels at breaks and bass house; for proof, just listen to ‘Gun Finger,’ ‘Swords and Dragons’ and ‘Nightshade,’ three of his most popular singles. Skism is the founder and ‘spiritual leader’ of the label Never Say Die, who conquers audiences with superb, crowd-pleasing DJ skills. See them both at The One.

Fri-Sun, Jun 29-Jul 1: Barwo Guild
Delight in the beautiful art of Cantonese opera this week at Guangdong Cantonese Arts Center with the meta-work Barwo Guild, which tells the story of why Guangdong opera was banned 120 years ago and how musical artists worked together to lift the restriction.

Sat, Jun 30: Sophie Zelmani
With her first self-titled debut album, Sophie Zelmani, a Swedish singer and songwriter, won the Best Newcomer Award at the Sweden Grammy Awards in 1996. Zelmani had no ambition to become internationally famous, yet her songs have been featured in TV series such as Dawson’s Creek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Independence Day. If you dig the style of Jack Johnson, Keren Ann or Suzanne Vega, you will not want to miss Zelmani live.

Sun, Jul 1: Battle Against Garbage
Founded in 1956, the Guangdong Province Puppet Art Theater has played over 300 programs during its 60-year lifespan, performing everything from fairy tales to contemporary drama. Directed by Chen Xuan, a young screenwriter and director at the Guangzhou Dramatic Arts Centre, Battle Against Garbage employs several colorful puppets to transform a serious social subject into a fun-filled play.

Ongoing: Keiichi Tanaami Exhibition
This pop art collection of more than 40 pieces by Japan’s 82-year-old avant-garde artist Keiichi Tanaami includes some of his best works created since the ‘60s. Perfect for creative minds and lovers of pop art, the exhibit includes oil paintings, prints, sculptures and collages. Combined, his kaleidoscopic creations reflect the artist's thoughts on World War II, China and more.
