Metro Security to Move Outside Stations in Guangzhou

Big changes are coming to the Guangzhou Metro, according to a report by GRT Radio, with the transport system set to move security checks outside of the station into specially constructed security rooms.

The report claims the relocation of security check-points is “to better carry out security inspections.”

A public announcement released by the folks over at the Guangzhou Metro Design and Research Institute declared that the outfit is soliciting design plans for the new inspection rooms, with the deadline for submissions set for May 30.

Much like at airport security, baggage is required to undergo an X-ray scan to enter Guangzhou Metro stations, while passengers must pass through metal detectors. The addition of X-ray machines last year saw security on the Guangzhou Metro reach the level of other major Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Shenzhen.

It’s currently unclear when construction will start on the proposed ‘security rooms,’ but you can rest assured that your trusty, metro-riding friends at That’s PRD will keep you posted on this story as it develops.
