A burning hardware factory in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District sent plumes of black smoke into the sky on the morning of April 20, resulting in the immediate dispatch of firefighters, police and medical responders, according to Nanfang Daily.
The fire broke out sometime around 7am at the factory, which is located in the Pazhou Hardware Park near Wanshengwei Metro Station, and fire crews battled for several hours before getting the blaze under control. Over a dozen fire engines were spotted at the scene.
While the cause of the fire has yet to be revealed, local media reports that the smoke emitted a strong, acrid smell – unsurprising considering that, according to workers at the scene, the factory was stacked high with paint and other combustible industrial products.
No injuries or fatalaties were reported as a result of the conflagration.
