An 11-year-old girl in Dongguan has been deemed responsible for causing a 3-month-old baby to fall into a coma after DNA tied her to the falling apple that hit the infant on March 9, Beijing News reports.

The apple was reportedly tossed from the 24th floor of a building in Tangxia, Dongguan. Mr. Liu, the father of the girl who threw the apple, said his daughter tossed the fruit to “feed a dog,” but, unfortunately, the apple fell from the balcony.

Liu’s daughter originally denied responsibility for the falling fruit out of fear, although she confessed when a police DNA test tied her to the apple.

The injured baby, named Tongtong, was brought to Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, where she was diagnosed with traumatic shock and a severe traumatic brain injury, according to Ecns.com

Tongtong’s grandfather has stated that his granddaughter is still in a coma and “not out of danger” despite having undergone a number of operations, reports Ecns.com.

Falling objects have become a problem in many of China’s high rise-heavy cities. Back in June 2016, an 11-year-old girl was killed by a pane of glass after it fell from a 20th floor apartment in Zhuhai and smashed her head.
