That's PRD takes a look at the best live music performances happening this weekend in Guangzhou:
Fri, Mar 23: The Upside Down @ 191 Space
It’s not often we get a band from Chongqing over in these parts of the South, but this weekend sees indie pop wonders The Upside Down arrive in Guangzhou in support of their self-titled debut album. The relative newcomers have already received much attention at festivals around the country and are likely to bring a playful, poppy vibe to 191 Space on Friday night.
Mar 23, 8pm; RMB60 presale, RMB80 at the door. 191 Space. Tickets.
Sat, Mar 24: Zhou Yunpeng @ Mao Livehouse
With about as much substance and texture to his voice as Serge Gainsbourg, Zhou Yunpeng’s simply arranged neofolk music can make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The blind singer is a veteran of the Chinese music scene, having released his first album, The Breath of Silence, way back in 2004.
Mar 24, 8pm; RMB100 presale, RMB120 at the door. Mao Livehouse. Tickets.
Sun, Mar 25: Luca Stricagnoli @ T:union
This will not be Luca Stricagnoli’s first tour of China. The guitar maestro arrived on these shores back in 2016 at the behest of Fingerstyle China. His impressive finger-work guitar playing wooed audiences at the time and he is coming back for more. The Italian first caught the attention of global audiences through Youtube after uploading videos of his awesome technique. For something a bit different this weekend, head down to T:union to see Stricagnoli work his magic.
Mar 25, 7.30pm; RMB99 (standing), RMB199 (seated), RMB299 (VIP), RMB 499 (VVIP). T:union. See event listing. Tickets.
