After a bit of a lull over the Chinese New Year Holiday, the city’s live music scene is swinging back into action. That's PRD takes a look at the best shows coming up this weekend:
Fri, Mar 2: Rock and Roll Lantern Festival @ Mao Livehouse
Celebrate the Lantern Festival in unconventional style this weekend with a night of rip-roaring and locally sourced rock and roll. Hardcore rock and mosh-pit glory come courtesy of SHAMELESS. Queen’s Garden will pacify proceedings with some ambient post-rock while Chui Ball Tong and Cat Machine round out the evening with Cantonese rock and funk rock respectively.

Sat, Mar 3: Pia Fraus @ T: Union
Known as one of the progenitors of Estonian shoegaze rock, Pia Fraus have been serving up dreamy soundscapes since 1997. In the wake of a recent upsurge of interest towards shoegaze rock in China, Pia Fraus find themselves on a hotly anticipated tour all across the length of the country. Inspired by My Bloody Valentine and having previously worked with members of Teenage Fanclub, Pia Fraus’ musical stylings are not to be missed this weekend.

Sat, Mar 3: Ma Bang @ Tune Live Music
Some good old-fashioned world fusion music served up by Ma Bang – a group of Guangxi natives on the rise. Ma Bang received nationwide praise for their self-titled debut album, which was followed up by burst of two releases in the past six months. The band are currently trying to reach new audiences and shake up their sound by joining forces with the likes of reggae and dub producer Jiangliang Sound System.
