The Guangzhou Metro Corp has stated that service on all lines, with the exception of brand spankin’ new Metro Line 14, will be extended over the New Year’s holiday.
On December 31 and January 1, service time will be increased by one hour to accommodate New Year’s revelers. According to GRT Radio, Guangzhou’s ever-expanding metro system is expected to host an astounding 9.3 million commuters per day over the holiday, with passenger congestion expected to peak on New Year’s Eve.
Although lines – and even specific stops – typically close at slightly different times in Guangzhou, the NYE extension means all stations will be open until at least 11pm, with some remaining open as late as 1am.
Admittedly, the extended hours are of little consequence to those individuals planning to get shlammo’d till 2am at one of these highly-anticipated New Year’s parties, but if you’re just looking to snag an in-town New Year’s Eve dinner, then the increased metro schedule is likely welcome news.
