Dec 12-14: Yami Festival

Yami Festival is an expo of tea and coffee that sees famous brands showcase and serve caffeinated drinks, coupled with goodies. The three-day event at Poly World Trade Center Expo will feature acclaimed shops from Hong Kong, Xiamen, Shantou and other Chinese cities, plus local baristas from Stigma Coffee, Gee Coffee Roasters, Proton Coffee Studio and more.

Dec 12-Feb 28: Intuition – Sino-German Contemporary Art

Eight artists will exhibit their work during this two-month-long exhibition, organized by the Consulate of Germany in Guangzhou and Art23 Gallery. Works vary from installations and videos to sculptures and paintings, all with a focus on contemporary elements. Seminars and workshops will be held in tandem with the exhibition.

Dec 14-15: Lightwire Theater Christmas Show

Lightwire Theater, famous for its electroluminescent artistry, is celebrating Christmas in Guangzhou this year with a special production. Featuring neon puppet creatures, their one-of-a-kind productions tell poignant stories accompanied by imaginative scores, and are designed for audiences of all ages.

Dec 14-18: Michelin-Starred Chef Jeff Ramsey

Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou welcomes American Michelin-starred Chef Jeff Ramsey for another special culinary experience at The Taikoo Lounge. The last promotion in May caused molecular tapas to trend across the city. During this showcase by Chef Jeff, diners can expect a carefully crafted seven-course lunch set menu and a nine-course degustation dinner menu, priced at RMB888 and RMB1,288 respectively. Dinner menus offer a choice of wine pairing at an additional charge. Each dining session is limited to 12 guests.

Dec 15: Bombino 

Masterfully blending blues, jazz reggae and afrobeat with a twist of his native nomadic Tuareg people tunes. His career kick start began after a recording session with Keith Richards brought him stateside from his native Niger. In 2013, Bombino released Nomad, produced by the Grammy Award-winning Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. It debuted at number one on the Billboard World Music album chart.

Dec 15-24: Jersey Boys 

Hailing from New Jersey, Italian-American rock group Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons rose to fame in the mid-1960s and landed in the Rock and Roll of fame in the 90s. Their shining suits, slicked-back hair and signature crooning style make them icons of the generation. Hit songs like ‘Sherry’, ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, ‘Walk Like a Man’ and – one of the most famous love songs of all time – ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ propelled the group to the top of pop music charts and allowed them to sell hundreds of millions of records worldwide. The Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys tells their story.

Dec 16: The Color Run 

The world-famous Color Run has been called “the happiest 5 kilometers on earth” for bringing people together to promote a healthy lifestyle. The emphasis is not on speed or ranking, but instead sharing joy with friends and strangers alike. All participants receive a package with a T-shirt, headband, tattoo sticker, sunglasses, Color Run bag and trademark, multihued 'shine powder.'

Dec 16: Bravo Craft Beer Bar Crawl Guangzhou

Organized by Bravo and sponsored by That's, this bar crawl is guaranteed to be a blast. Starting at 2pm at Bravo, craft beer lovers will visit Meyerbrau at Fisherman’s Wharf, where the White Knight Belgian awaits; Phoebeer on Yanjiang Lu to taste the 020 IPA; Lazy Guys in Taojin to relish the Coffee Porter and Ergou Pub in Haizhu before returning to Bravo. Participants will be grouped into teams of 10 to compete in drinking, darts and other fun-filled games. A grand prize goes to the winner, with plenty of other prizes for runners up.

Dec 17: Cheer Chen

Known for a simple and serene style, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Cheer Chen has captivated audiences across China. After starting her career in 1996, Chen became an independent singer in 2003 and composed a number of her most popular songs – including ‘Travel is Meaningful’ and ‘After 17’ – soon after. Catch Chen’s acoustic concert at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall this month.

Dec 17: Mourning Dawn

Songs written by this French black-metal band are full of strong emotion, conveyed to the audience in a surprisingly understated manner. Mourning Dawn's vocals and long riffs are reminiscent of metal groups Shining and Forgotten Tomb, and have won the band a growing fan base across Europe. Black-metal fans, don't miss this performance in Guangzhou.
