If you found yourself ‘out on the town’ in Zhujiang New Town this past Saturday evening, chances are you saw at least a couple liquored-up Santas wandering the streets. If you happened to be drinking or dining in Morgan’s Public House, The Happy Monk Kingold, Hooley’s Irish Pub or McCawley’s Irish Pub, you likely found yourself surrounded by throngs of jolly, drunken Santa Pub Crawl participants.
The 2017 Santa Pub Crawl took place on November 25, a week or so earlier than previous years due to the upcoming Fortune Global Forum 2017 in Guangzhou. This is the 14th year the popular Christmas charity event has been held in the city.
We have a fantastic video of the sold out event at the bottom of this story, courtesy of Eejay Basa. But first, let’s take a look at some photos:

Guangzhou’s Santa Pub Crawl was originally started by the gentlemen at the Whiskey Appreciation Society as a way to give back to the community and help holiday-deprived Guangzhou expats reconnect with their Christmas spirt.
“We organize this to give back to the community, for the expats and locals - especially those living far away from their homes – to help them get into the Christmas spirit at a special time of the year," Wallaby Ted, one of the event’s longtime organizers, told us in the lead up to the 2015 Santa Pub Crawl.
Last year, the event managed to raise RMB12,000, which was donated to the Guangdong International Volunteer Expat Service (more commonly known by its acronym: GIVES). GIVES works closely with all parts of the international community and has invested considerable time helping autistic centers across Guangdong.
Organizers have not finished tallying the funds raised this year through the event, but rest assured: a total will be released in the coming weeks.
