Guangzhou Evergrande secured their seventh consecutive Chinese Super League title on Sunday, after crushing Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng 5-1.
Despite two league matches remaining in the season, Evergrande now holds a commanding nine-point lead over the second place team, Shanghai SIPG. Ironically, it was Evergrande’s bitter city rivals Guangzhou R&F who handed them the title by beating SIPG 2-1 on Sunday.

Evergrande’s Gao Lin opened the scoring with a goal that was his 100th with the club. Gao is presently the team’s all-time top goalscorer.
The CSL title is coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's third since signing with the club in 2015, although sportnews.com has speculated it may be his last, with his contract set to conclude. So far, both Thomas Tuchel and former Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti have been mentioned as possible Scolari replacements.
