At around 8.30pm last night, Guangzhou’s fire response command center received word that a four-story brick building on Shamian Island was engulfed in flames, according to local media.
Eighteen fire engines responded to the call, extinguishing the fire by 2.40am this morning. No casualties were reported and, according to reports, the fire did not spread or cause serious damage to surrounding structures.
You very well may be wondering how a brick building catches fire, and the answer to that is: the structure had wood flooring – which, unlike brick, rock and cement, is flammable.

According to numerous reports, it has been “verified the building [was] not a cultural relic building.”
