September 13: Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff
Hispanic Heritage Month, organized by the American consulate, is kicking off on Wednesday evening, inviting curious individuals to taste free Latin food and enjoy salsa, Latin music and a cultural exhibition.

September 12: Guangzhou Evergrande vs Shanghai SIPG in the AFC Champions League
After a shock 4-0 defeat at arch rivals Shanghai SIPG in the first leg of the AFC Champions League quarter-final a fortnight ago, Guangzhou is looking at the performance of a lifetime to pull off an inprobable comeback. Get along to Tianhe Stadium to find out if they can manage it.

September 14: Racheal Yamagata
American independent singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata isn’t just famous in the US – a number of her songs have been adapted and sung by well-known Chinese musicians as well. Thanks to her smooth vocals (check out her single ‘Paper Doll’), Yamagata has gained positive reviews in the media and immense support from her fans. Touring six Chinese cities this month, the cat-loving songster is to meet her Middle Kingdom fans for the second time with her consolable music.

September 15: The Cave Electronic Music Festival
Organized by The Cave, this music festival will feature performances by a number of trendy, talented DJs, including Quintino, Frontliner, Saymyname, Dannic, 4B, Big Joe and Lizzy.

September 15: Movie Night – A King in New York
A King in New York (1957) was directed and starred in by the legendary Charlie Chaplin, after his 'McCarthyism' persecution. The movie lampoons the limitations of sound film and the idiocy of the McCarthy communist-hunt era and other aspects of American politics and society. It was selected as the best work of the year by Cahiers du Cinéma.

September 15: TOY
TOY are an English indie rock band hailing from Brighton and boasting a sound that’s described as a blend of psychedelic rock, krautrock, shoegaze and post-punk. Their collaboration with English singer Natasha Khan led to the birth of Sexwitch, an album that covered 1970s’ psych and folk songs from Iran, Morocco, Thailand and the US.

September 15-October 8: Paris +2°C – Paris Reinvents Itself Exhibition
In a watery future, sea levels have risen, forcing Paris to adapt to the world of 2100. This fictional project looks at how Paris might respond in the future with Et Alors studio displaying 20 city maps showing how Paris would need to change.

September 16: Cantus
Conducting almost 100 performances every year, eight-member male ensemble Cantus are embarking on their first tour to China this month. Eulogized as one of the world’s most promising a cappella groups, they boast a unique approach to producing and performing music that’s constantly evolving through collaborations with other bands and ensembles. They’ve prepared a hodgepodge of folk songs, famous hits and Chinese tunes for their Guangzhou show this month.

September 16-17: Swan Lake by the Russian State Ballet
This stately ballet troupe will grace Guangzhou with their technically impressive rendition of Swan Lake. The Russian Ballet is defined by clean and simple movements that manage to avoid robotic motions, and Swan Lake is the seminal Russian ballet performance.

September 17: Nicholas McCarthy
“God forgot to give him a right hand, so he realized his musical dream with his left.” This was said of aspiring one-handed British pianist Nicholas McCarthy, who was successfully accepted by and later graduated from the Royal College of Music in London against all odds. During his first tour to China, he will perform with utter sincerity and share a bit of his fascinating story with audiences.
