A man in Guangzhou was stabbed to death on Qixi eve (August 27) by his girlfriend’s ex, according to Southern Metropolis Daily.
A witness to the murder told a SMD reporter that the suspect, surnamed Liu, was waiting outside a restaurant in the city’s Haizhu District while the victim and Liu’s ex-girlfriend were having dinner.
He allegedly ‘just wanted to talk’ with the couple, but when they exited the restaurant Liu moved towards the victim and began stabbing him.
“He stabbed his chest first, then his back,” said one witness. “The victim was stabbed four times in total and he just fell to the ground.”
After stabbing his ex’s new boyfriend, Liu fled the scene.
Graphic video footage of the incident shows the severely wounded man lying in a pool of blood on the pavement.

The scene of the murder
The incident, which occurred near Sun Yat-sen University, spurred police to set up roadblocks in an effort to locate the suspected murderer. The victim was tended to by first responders, but was pronounced dead.
Authorities were able to track Liu to his home, which was near the scene of the crime, and arrested him around 7pm.
Liu, a 26-year-old man from Quanzhou, Guangxi province, told police that he committed the murder because he was angry at the victim for starting a relationship with his ex.
The tragic murder of a young lover is compounded by the fact it occurred on the eve of Qixi Festival, better known by foreigners as ‘Chinese Valentine’s Day.’
The suspect is currently in police detention and investigation into the case is ongoing.
