After a long back and forth, and multiple rejected bids of up to EUR25 million by Barcelona to snatch Guangzhou Evergrande’s star midfielder, it seemed that for now, Paulinho was here to stay.

But after losing Neymar, one of the club's key players, it appears Barca has decided to up the ante, and the two teams are apparently “in advanced talks” to move the Brazilian national to Barcelona, according to the Independent.

Some sources have claimed the deal sending Paulinho to Barcelona is 95 percent completed.

Since his China debut in 2015, Paulinho has earned a reputation on the field as crucial player for Evergrande, wowing fans with moments like this incredible 40-yard goal against Kashiwa Reysol.

Off the field he has also gained notoriety, most memorably: a gambling scandal involving Japanese porn star Tsukasa Aoi.

The Catalan newspaper Sport recently reported that discussions are in their final stages and Barcelona hopes to complete the deal in the coming days.

The details of the offer tabled by Barca have not been published, but the club has previously made clear that they are unwilling to pay Paulinho's EUR40 million release clause.
