July 24: Flash the Readies
This electrifying performance by Flash the Readies is an opportune occasion to acquaint yourself with Czech post-rock. Formed 12 years ago, the group will present tracks from their newest album, Kayos, at SD Livehouse.

July 25: Idea Exchange End of Season Dinner
A whole summer of great talks later, Idea Exchange will see its final episode this season at Sultan Restaurant in Taojin this Tuesday evening. The night’s guest speaker, Yaman Hadi, will be narrating the rich culture, history and attractions of Turkey, a bridge between the East and the West. A number of the most well-received speakers of the year will also be in attendance.

July 25-26: Ice Sand
This show, as its name implies, will involve ice and sand. More specifically, Ice Sand will feature artists creating story-telling works using sand as paint and ice as the canvas. Some of the stories will make you laugh, while others will touch your heart. This event will consist of six performances, each with a different theme.

July 26-August 6: Sister Act
Based on the 1992 hit film of the same name, Sister Act the musical has been performed on notable stages around the globe. With scores by Grammy and Academy Award nominee Alan Menken, the musical received five Tony Award nominations in 2011. It tells the story of a Reno lounge singer, who, after witnessing a mob crime, is hidden in a convent as part of a witness protection program, where she struggles to fit in. This July, the original Broadway production, directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, will make an appearance on the stage of the Guangzhou Opera House.

July 28: Seesaw
In the two years since the group’s formation, Beijing jazz quartet Seesaw have gained considerable attention from both their peers and jazz fanatics. The band members, each having their own performance style, are able to deliver surprises and originality with their improvisation. Catch them jazzing up the night at T:union this Friday.

July 29: Zapata’s Pajama Party

July 29: BP Zoom
Mr. B is scrupulous, wearing a formal coat and specs. Mr. P, keen but clumsy, is a fantasist. When the two meet, the great physical comedy double act known as BP Zoom is born. The creation of American comedian Bernie Collins and Frenchman Philippe Martz, BP Zoom, by means of pantomime, brings laughter to audiences with body rhythm and clever gestures, without breathing a word.

July 29: Barbie Run
This week in Guangzhou, you can be a ‘Barbie Girl’ in a Barbie world at the fashionably pink Barbie Run. Participants will jog or run through Zhujiang New Town in pink T-shirts this Saturday, in what is sure to be one of the year’s most memorable fitness-related events. So come on Barbie, let's go running!

Ongoing: Chinese Shanshui Photography Exhibition
Chinese poet Li Bai lived during the Tang dynasty and was acclaimed, as a genius and romantic figure, for taking traditional poetic forms to new heights. This exhibition showcases photographs that capture the locations in Li Bai’s poems. For this project, Chinese photographer Xu Peiwu travelled for five years around China, snapping scenes near the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Mount Emei and more.
