On May 18, in Dalian, Liaoning province, the Guangzhou Metro Company unveiled the longest subway trains ever built in China. 186 meters in length, the trains are the first to boast eight-carriage compartments and are able to carry a record-breaking 3,456 passengers, according to Guangzhou Metro

Manufactured by CPRC Dalian Corporation, the trains will run on Guangzhou’s under-construction Metro Line 13, which is nearing the completion of the ‘Phase 1’ portion of the project. Once completed, the line will run from Baiyun District to Zengcheng, although the first section to open will only run from Zengcheng to Line 5’s Yuzhu Metro Station in Huangpu.

The new trains will travel at an average speed of 100 kilometers per hour, according to a media release, and will be able to transport Zengcheng residents to downtown Guangzhou within an hour. The carriages will also have a ‘FaceTime’ feature to allow passengers to video call the driver in the case of an emergency.

Xu Kunjie, of the Guangzhou Metro Company, said that Phase 1 of Line 13 is 85 percent completed and is expected to open by the end of the year.

UPDATE (June 2, 2017 at 3:53pm CST): This story has been corrected to reflect that Dalian is located in Liaoning province.
