Police in southern China conducted a multi-province drug bust last week that resulted in 16 people being detained, 10 in Guangxi and 6 in Guangdong, according to Shanghai Daily

The operation was triggered by an April 27 call to the Laibin City Police Department, in Guangxi, to inform them that a gang from Huizhou, in Guangdong, were in town to manufacture ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic that is illegal to use recreationally.

The police were also reportedly informed that the group intended to move raw ingredients for drug production from Shandong province to Xiangzhou county, near Laibin.

Authorities were able to arrest eight suspects after commencing their investigation, all of which were caught red-handed last Friday at a drug production site located at a Xiangzhou county tree farm.

At the scene, police discovered roughly 250 kilograms of ketamine, 1,078 kilograms of partially-completed drugs, drug production equipment and four vehicles, according to the Shanghai Daily report.

Officers also nabbed two more suspected drug manufacturers and RMB1.4 million in dirty money in Laibin on the same day, while police in Huizhou detained six others suspected of being involved in the criminal operation.
