At sometime around noon today, we looked out our office window and were surprised to see a storm of Biblical proportions outside. Under a darkened sky, heavy winds whipped marble-sized raindrops through the air, creating a kind of liquid shrapnel while thunder boomed from all directions.
In short: Mother Nature put on one hell of a show. Anyone who has lived in Guangzhou long enough will probably agree that we saw more extreme-weather action today than we do during most typhoons that've hit the city. Just check out the images below, taken this afternoon.
By 2pm, the rain had stopped, the sky had lightened up considerably and the thunder was just a distant echo – in Yuexiu District anyway (Baiyun was probably still getting hammered).
Despite the storm being relatively short-lived as they always seem to be in the PRD, Guangzhouers were able to snap some pretty ominous shots:
