Since marrying shoegaze’s melodic waves of ear-bleeding distortion with the thunderous dramatics of black metal over a decade ago, Alcest has been leading the blackgaze movement. They show no signs of slowing down with their acclaimed fifth album, Kodama. Read our interview with them here.

April 19: Yi-Gather Meet-up
The monthly Yi-Gather meet-up is the opportune occasion for one to network with and befriend interesting people while acquire new knowledge. Every month, several specialized speakers will deliver talks on a wide range of topics, drawing on their own experience. Presentations cover all aspects of life, from occupational experiences and projects, to hobbies and academia. Taking place at the Yi-Gather Community, this monthly happening is presented in English.

April 21: Maximilian Hecker
German music producer and songwriter Maximilian Hecker is adored for his delicate voice and troubadour-like quality, leaving an unconventional impression on fans. From his very first album Infinite Love Songs to Spellbound Scenes of My Cure, Hecker, an all-around musician, has insisted on composing, singing and playing instruments on his own. Hecker describes his songs as melancholy pop hymns.

April 21: Giorgia Fumanti China Tour
Famous for her angelic voice, Fumanti enjoys equal popularity with British crossover singer Sarah Brightman, Italy’s classical tenor Andrea Bocelli and Celtic musican Enya. Her pure and clean soprano has captivated audiences in Europe, Asia and North America and her repertoire ranges from classic categories to pop songs. Fumanti’s concert in Guangzhou will include classy pieces like ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Dream a Dream,’ as well as famous Chinese songs such as ‘A Place Far Away’ and ‘The Moon Represents My Heart.’

April 22: Fun Day at Alcanta International College
Alcanta International College is hosting its annual Fun Day, an international carnival, on April 22. There will be a dazzling array of carnival games, laser tag, a wide selection of food and, of course, prizes! Welcoming the Guangzhou community to join them, the event is free of charge. All proceeds from the carnival will be donated to Couleur dr Chine, helping vulnerable girls of the Miao, Yao, and Dong minority group.
