February 28: Idea Exchange – Columbia

Colombia, the crossroads of Latin America, is famous for its salsa, coffee and cocaine, and as the birthplace of pop icon Shakira, actress Sofia Vergara, writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez and drug warlord Pablo Escobar. After 50 years of civil war, the country’s Nobel Prize-winning President Santos has negotiated peace with FARC rebels. Cristian Gomez is a business director and finance consultant who first visited China for the Beijing Olympics back in 2008 and has recently moved to Guangzhou with his family company. He will give a personal tour of his homeland this Tuesday.

March 2-12: China Restaurant Week 

China Restaurant Week’s 10th edition will embark on another culinary adventure this week. With over 400 participating restaurants, you can be sure there is an eatery catering to your palate and pocketbook. March 4: Fish Leong Concert

Malaysian singer Fish Leong is a prominent figure in the Mandarin pop scene in Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Malaysia, Singapore and Japan. Famous for her romantic ballads, Leong has enjoyed being named ‘the queen of love songs’ for the last 10 years.

March 4: Dr. Panda Comedy Club

After nearly a six-month hiatus, Dr. Panda Comedy Club returns this week to Guangzhou. Come to The Paddy Field on Saturday, March 4, for a night of storytelling and stand-up comedy. Featuring performances by six comedians – Ryan Hynek, Andrew Newman, Pete Grella, Garron Chiu, Andrew Grant and Zak Knudsen – Dr. Panda Comedy Club will crack you up with stories themed ‘The Worst.’ Don’t miss it!

A demonstration of Chicago-based artist Megan Pryce’s desire to illustrate new surroundings, In This Place was born from Pryce’s experience traveling to Europe, Asia and now Nanting Village in Guangzhou’s Panyu District. Drawn to the textures and colors that comprise the village, Pryce, as an illustrator and designer, was inspired to create this collection, which should resonate will expats living in Guangzhou.

Ongoing: Black Truffle-Themed Menu at Alfresco

Savor the “diamond of the kitchen” at Langham’s semi-outdoor Italian restaurant, Alfresco, where Executive Sous Chef Andrea from Venice will elevate the art of Italian cuisine once again with a black truffle-inspired menu and refined specialties. Foie gras salad is deliciously paired with truffle and mixed with caramelized green apple and fruit masala wine reduction. The homemade pumpkin ravioli and ricotta cheese, grana padano, butter, black truffle, is also a must-try.
