When the The Tavern Zhujiang opened its doors way back in December of 2009, it was with a mission to provide Guangzhouers with filling pub-style fare, inebriated evenings and a place to watch sports. Now, seven years later, The Tavern is no more.
On February 1, the notable English pub’s emblem came down on Huajiu Lu and was replaced by another sign (albeit a temporary one) donning the location's new name: Morgan’s.
Dubbed by many "the newest old bar in town," Morgan’s is dedicated to the same good times, cold brews and finger-licking edibles, according to longtime proprietor Johnny Morgan, who has taken the pub in a fresh direction with the help of some new partners.
Mr. Morgan told That’s that patrons can expect “fresh décor, premium service staff and an expertly crafted new menu, with old favorites and a variety of new surprises.”
Currently, Morgan’s is undergoing refurbishment to give the bar a renewed look. Renovations are expected to wrap up in four to five weeks, although the bar will still be open “normal hours.”
As longtime fans of The Tavern’s curries, pool tables and friendly management, we look forward to seeing what the future has in store for us at Morgan’s! (Hint: it’s a meatball baguette sandwich.)
