Netizen Creates 11 Guangzhou Metro Anime Girls

Move over Sailor Scouts, the Guangzhou Metro just got its own troupe of cute anime-style comic girls!

The characters, which each represent a different Guangzhou Metro line, are the brainchild of Weibo user ‘Space Disorder’ and recently gained widespread fame after being covered by Tencent News.

Each character displays different qualities to personify the subway line they represent. For example, the APM Line’s ‘mechanical comic girl’ sports a Geordi La Forge-esque visor (if this reference is lost on you, see Star Trek: The Next Generation) to represent the line's automation and lack of human drivers.

Line 1

As you can see below, this character’s yellow dress and red shoes match perfectly with Line 1's trains.

Line 2

Because Line 2 services a number of Guangzhou parks, the girl below has been dubbed “garden girl.”

Line 3

It’s no secret Line 3 is one of the city’s most congested and to anthropomorphize this, the artist has given our visibly tired Line 3 character a heavy backpack.

Line 4

Since Line 4 leads to University City, a school girl was chosen to symbolize the line.

Line 5

This 'luxurious' girl is intended to epitomize the wealth and luxury that is found in Guangzhou’s CBD, which is serviced by Line 5.

Line 6

Shopping + “old Guangzhou” = Line 6 girl.

Line 7

The character below is reportedly wearing a swimsuit to represent Chimelong Water Park, which is served by Line 7's Hanxi Changlong Station (also an interchange with Line 3).

Line 8

As comic book fans will know, Line 8 leads to Guangzhou’s famous Firefly Comic Exhibition, so this character took inspiration from “anime, comics and games.” (Although, to be frank, virtually all of these cartoon girls appear to have taken inspiration from anime, comics and games.)

APM Line

As previously mentioned, the APM Line’s ‘mechanical comic girl’ represents the line's automation and lack of human drivers.

Guangfo Line

The Guangfo Line boasts twin cartoon girls to signify the cooperation between Guangzhou and Foshan in completing the line.
