CNY 2017 Guangzhou Flower Market Guide

Guangzhou is famous for its traditional flower markets that pop up every year around Spring Festival. It’s one of the main reasons the city has earned the epithet “the City of Flowers.” To help you get the most out of CNY flower displays, we've assembled a list of flower markets where a blossoming spring awaits!


Huacheng Square and Haixinsha Island

Come to Huacheng Square and Haixinsha Island for this year’s music and lantern show during CNY. This 17-day festivity, starting from January 24, will feature one show every half an hour and will utilize lighting, lasers and video while profiling Lingnan music.

Yuntai Garden

Yuntai Garden, at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, holds a spectacular flower market every year. To celebrate the Year of the Rooster, the market will center around tulips, showcasing a variety of geranium and antirrhinum, among numerous others. Peach and rape flowers will also greet guests, which will be held both outdoors and in greenhouses.

Liwan Lake

The waters of Liwan Lake will host a CNY flower market this year, while traditional food and craft markets are to be held around the lake. Traditional Cantonese dance troupes will also put on a wide range of shows to entertain visitors.

Yuexiu Park

One of the more notable festivities in Guangzhou, the lantern fair and flower market in Yuexiu Park is a must-attend event on Chinese New Year’s Eve. The peony flower, which is regarded as “China’s national flower,” will be exhibited, while over 50 sets of lanterns will light up the night, ushering you in to a prosperous year.

Liuhua Lake

Themed The Wizard of Oz, Liuha Lake’s flower market is designed to entertain the little ones! Creative landscape art like bonsai (or pengjing) trees will also be displayed.
