PHOTOS: Authorities Stage Anti-Terrorism Drill at Guangzhou South Station

With Chinese New Year right around the corner, authorities ran a number of emergency drills at Panyu District’s Guangzhou South Railway Station yesterday morning (January 9), according to Tencent News.

terrorism-drill-guangzhou-south-station-1.jpgMore than 300 people from Panyu’s public security, urban management, fire and health departments participated in the exercises, which covered a number of different scenarios, including terrorist attacks, high-speed rail outages, stranded passengers, stampede events, emergency evacuation and random violence.

For the anti-terrorism part of the drill, armored vehicles and armed police were deployed to deal with a simulated knife attack.

The drills were intended to prepare authorities and first responders for dealing with emergency situations amongst the infamous Spring Festival crowds that are expected to swarm the station in the coming days.

The 2017 Spring Festival travel rush is expect to begin January 13 and run until February 21.
