December 14-18: Tap Factory

Choreographer Vincent Pausanias wanted to create a show that would showcase the magic of tap at its highest possible technical level using world renowned tappers. Witness it live this week at the Guangdong Performing Arts Center Theater.

December 15: All Shall Be Well

   

Playing primarily instrumental, cinematic music, Dutch band All Shall Be Well look for unsuspected harmonies, creating music that’s highly associative and is often likened to poetic stories rather than songs. After releasing two albums, the band’s current project centers on interpreting classical composers to recreate their works with new arrangements, because in the end they know: all shall be well.

December 15: The Beatleband at Rebel Rebel

Along with Santa Clause, The Beatleband, famous in South China for their melodic tribute to the great Beatles, are to visit Rebel Rebel on December 15. Come dance, sing, twist and shout to your favorite Beatles’ songs. Buy a 'Beatles' shooter' and get one free.

December 16 and 18: Shlomo Mintz

Israeli violist Shlomo Mintz has actively played with many an orchestra on the international scene. Beginning his career at the age of 11 as a soloist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, he was later mentored by prominent American violinist and conductor Isaac Stern. Mintz made his first Carnegie Hall debut at only 16. As a conductor, he has led numerous acclaimed orchestras including the UK’s Royal Philharmonic, NHK Symphony of Japan and Israel Philharmonic. At Xinghai Concert Hall, Mintz will perform some of Bach’s greatest works.

December 16-17: Love Song – Rhyme for You (Performed in Chinese)

Founded in 1997 by a passionate bunch of thespians, drama scholars and playwrights based in Taiwan, Creative Society has consistently tried their hands at a number of different aesthetic styles and theater presentations while preserving original scripts. Creative Society’s stage oeuvre and winner of the Taipei Literature Award, Love Song: Rhyme for You, tells a story of how two strangers – a playwright trying to commit suicide and a mysterious passerby – delve into conversation about the abnormal works created by the playwright.

December 17: A Mazing Race

December 17: Trace Bundy

Known to his fans as ‘The Acoustic Ninja’ for his legato and finger tapping skills, Colorado native Trace Bundy began his career at the age of 11 with videos on YouTube and Facebook before signing with record label United Interests. Bundy recounts being influenced by musicians such as David Wilcox, Ani Difranco and Phil Keaggy. This month, the young talent is psyched to astonish Guangzhou with his intricate finger picking arpeggios and multiple capos.

December 18: Three Chinese Sopranos

A trio of award-winning artistes performs a melange of Western opera arias and Chinese folk ballads. Wang Xiufen, Ma Mei and ‘Chinese lark’ Me Hong use their distinctive voices to charm audiences with oriental and occidental classics, accompanied by Zhang Jialin on piano.
