Authorities Remove Patios on Xingsheng Lu

After months of rumors, Xingsheng Lu’s patio party has come to a slightly expected conclusion.

Photos began circulating on social media yesterday (December 10) that showed a large contingent of chengguan, the metropolitan Chinese equivalent of high school hall monitors, removing patio equipment and tents from Xingsheng Lu bars and restaurants.

According to numerous sources and media outlets, authorities have been planning to remove the famous Guangzhou party street’s patio areas for some time.

While it’s unfortunate that patio season has come to a close on Xingsheng Lu, we are happy to inform you that it is still business as usual – sans extended outdoor seating.

Outdoor seating will still be allowed under the overhanging areas and patios may come back in some capacity in the future – so all is not lost.

We will post updates on the situation as they emerge.
