The crackdown on shady taxis operating at Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport continues this week with police detaining an illegal taxi operator after he attempted to drive away from inspection officers.
The taxi was found by authorities to be operating without a license and using a meter-jumping device that had been installed on the shift stick. The driver was busted on December 3 at around 1.30pm.
The receipt for the passenger riding in the illegal cab at the time of the bust showed the commuter had been charged RMB127 for a 40-kilometer journey from Pingsha in Baiyun District to the airport. In reality that trip is only 20 kilometers and should cost no more than RMB60.
This arrest was the eighth such bust in recent weeks and it seems prudent to remind our readers to ensure your driver has their taxi license visibly displayed on the car's dashboard (the license card should also include a photo of the driver).
