November 28: Summer House 3rd Anniversary

This Monday, head over to Summer House to celebrate 3 years of live music, delicious eats and tantalizing cocktails. Each customer will enjoy a complementary welcome drink upon their arrival at the party (between 6.30-8.30pm only) and, if you come hungry, you can enjoy a German sausage meal with a cocktail or mocktail for RMB99. All German sausages will also be 30 percent off. In addition to food and drink specials, attendees can revel in the groovy beats of DJ Violent – as well as rock out with live music from the band 5th Avenue. There will also be a sparkler show, Brazilian dancers, stilt walkers and an enticing lucky draw!

December 1: Hooley’s Trivia Night

Every Thursday evening, Hooley's presents a night of trivia. Head over to indulge in a wide range of questions and prizes for the top three teams! Hang around after to enjoy live music.

December 3: GIVES Annual Festival

GIVES International Food and Fun Fair will be held at the iconic Canton Tower venue for the second time on Saturday, December 3. The fair has always been one of the highlights of the Guangzhou social calendar and it is the biggest fundraiser of the year for GIVES (Guangdong International Volunteer Expat Service). There is a truly international flavor to both the food and performances of the GIVES Fair, with many different parts of the expat community serving up great dishes as well as memorable stage shows. School choirs, a disabled school orchestra, bands and singers share the stage with locals who show off local culture with tai chi and Cantonese opera.

December 3: Santa Pub Crawl

Since its inception in 2003, the Santa Pub Crawl has evolved into one of Guangzhou’s most notable non-profit events. Hell, the crawl was even featured in the Wall Street Journal a few years back! This year’s Santa Pub Crawl will take place on Saturday, December 3, and take attendees to a minimum of four venues via chartered buses! Like past years, the pub crawl will start at The Paddy Field Irish Bar on Huale Lu, although the rest of the itinerary is a closely guarded secret.Tickets are on sale now and, with only 250 available, they are expected to go faster than Santa’s supernatural sleigh. Tickets are available at The Butcher Shop, The Paddy Field and the Happy Monk (Xingsheng Lu)

December 2: That's PRD Food and Drink Awards

That’s PRD will celebrate the best of our city’s restaurants, bars and clubs in Guangzhou this December at our pop art-themed 2016 That’s PRD Stella Artois Food & Drink Awards

You can join in the fun, too – a limited number of tickets are now on sale for this event. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a night out with friends, make new ones and celebrate the best that Guangzhou has to offer. Savor live entertainment, free-flow alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, a self-serve cocktail buffet and lots of other foodie fun! Come for the food but be sure to stay for the awards, entertainment and lucky draw – which is sure to be the highlight of the night! 

The event will feature the best bars, clubs and restaurants of South China as voted by our readership. This will also be a prime opportunity to mingle with key members of the food and beverage industry as well as influential leaders in business and commerce.

Until December 2: Roméo et Juliette the Musical

Based on Shakespeare’s namesake play, French musical Roméo et Juliette has gone on stages throughout Europe and been translated into many languages. The brainchild of French choreographer Redha Benteifour, with music and lyrics by French popular composer Gérard Presgurvic, this production has entertained audiences by adding some excitement to the plot: the nature of the lovers’ death is different and new characters such as 'Death' and 'the Poet' are introduced.

Until December 13: VR Art – The Surrealistic Journey

Virtual reality is very much in vogue now – shooting and racing games are just two of the countless amusements that are taking advantage of this cutting-edge technology. A spokesperson of Alibaba recently claimed customers will soon be able to shop in ‘Buy+VR’ stores, which will allow users to browse real stores thousands of miles from home. And then there’s Google’s Tilt Brush, which has made 3D painting a reality. Want to learn more about how VR is changing the world? Come to the first VR-themed exhibition in Guangzhou that will feature the futuristic ideas of 10 different artists.

Until January 2: Homestay for Foreign Students Recruiting

Officially founded in 1948, AIESEC was created with the mission to “expand the understanding of a nation by expanding the understanding of the individuals, changing the world one person at a time.” Explore China is a non-profit project organized by its branch at Sun Yat-sen University that selects a group of foreigners every year to visit Guangzhou and experience everyday life in the southern metropolis. Volunteers willing to host foreigners are expected to provide a bed, one meal every day, Internet access and a warm, accepting attitude.
