After 42 years of being southern China’s major transportation hub, the Guangzhou Railway Station is set to be transformed into a high-speed railway station, according to Southern Daily

The project is estimated to start in 2018 and finish in 2022, during which time the station’s current transportation operations will be moved to Tanxi Train Station, located 3 kilometers to the north, according to an article in Guangzhou Daily published this past September.

Guangzhou is set to further boost its transportation capacity, with construction on the Guangzhou North Station currently underway. The north station will surpass Guangzhou South Station in both scale and functions and, being so close to Baiyun Airport, will become an asset to air travelers.

Meanwhile, new routes are set to open from Guangzhou East Station to Foshan, Nashan, Zengcheng and Xintang.
