Big things are just around the bend for Guangzhou Metro commuters and we aren’t talking about those unexpected tunnel turns that toss you into the elderly man to your right – we’re talking about electronic payment options and free Wi-Fi!
According to Tencent News, by the end of 2017 Guangzhou will be the first city in China to accept Apple Pay, Quick Pass and Union Pay across its entire metro system. Guangzhou’s APM line launched the new payment scheme back in August, becoming the first metro line in the city to support e-payments.
Passing through the subway barriers will soon be as easy as tapping your phone against the scan-pad – wild, right?
In addition to this delightful bit of news, complimentary Wi-Fi will be offered in all stations, as well as on trains, by the end of 2016. No more loosing your signal in the middle of that important WeChat conversation about which dive bar you’ll be visiting after work!
The future is now on the Guangzhou Metro!
