Imagine you wake up in the middle of the jungle. Do it, do it now, close your eyes and imagine: towering trees blocking the sky; hot, humid air all around you; distant howls, squawks and buzzing sounds blasting through the environment like an unrelenting symphony of disorganized musicians. There is also the risk of poisonous snakes and spiders, not to mention big cats and potentially unfriendly tribes of uncontacted peoples.
It sounds pretty terrifying, right? Like a scene from Joseph Conrad’s novel Heart of Darkness, which takes place in colonial Congo, or possibly the film Apocalypse Now, which takes place in the jungles of Vietnam and Cambodia – not that far from us here in Guangzhou.
While we wholeheartedly believe that being lost in the jungle would be a frightening occurrence, the team at The Happy Monk wants to share a different take on the experience at this month’s Happy Thursdays event.
On August 25, from 6.30-8.30pm, The Happy Monk Jianwu will be transformed into a serene jungle ecosystem, allowing guests to unleash their inner Tarzan while enjoying complementary snacks and drinks.
As always, there will be a fantastic lucky draw, offering guests the chance to leave with not just ‘the bare necessities,’ but possibly a really cool prize!
Happy Thursdays, for those of you that have been stuck under an elephant-sized boulder, are social and networking events catering to The Happy Monk’s friends and customers. It’s their way of saying thank you, or as howler monkeys commonly say: “Oo-Oo-AH-AH-AH.”
August 25, 6.30-8.30pm; free entry. The Happy Monk Jianwu.
