5 Mouthwatering Guangzhou Pizza Eateries

One of Italy’s most celebrated exports, pizza is synonymous with comfort food, drunken nights on the town and, occasionally, a romantic date on a sun-soaked patio.

In homage to the region's myriad of pizza-serving establishments, we have decided to round up five of our favorite havens for round, cheesy discs.

American Pie Pizza

Panyu’s most popular pizza establishment, American Pie Pizza is noteworthy for its diverse menu of pies and, our personal favorite, the Guangzhou-renowned pizza burger! Restaurant proprietor Rob Turnbull recommends first-time visitors dive into the NYC supreme, a delicious blend of pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers and mozzarella. We also have to highlight the spicy Sichuan chicken pizza, which utilizes spicy marinara sauce as a base.

The Happy Monk

Previously notable for its make-your-own-pizza option (#RIP), The Happy Monk is now worth a visit for the re-designed pizza menu, which features a number of new additions, including the unique buffalo mozzarella pizza with tomato sauce and sweet basil. It's a perfect patio snack while sipping chardonnay with a cute date. There are also some solid pide (Turkey's version of pizza) - the chili-spiced beef is our top pick.

Mammamia

Chinese and expat clientele at Mammamia will find its food different – mamma-mia-this-pizza-is-so-good kind of different – because most ingredients and ovens in the kitchen are imported from Italy, no expense spared. Mozzarella is the trattoria’s secret weapon, made in-store with traditional techniques to guarantee its taste. It’s what makes the humble margherita pizza so popular among customers – that, and the abundance of tomato sauce.

Sultan Restaurant Turkish BBQ

Though unlike the more notable Italian variety of pizza, pide are undoubtedly a culinary force to be reckoned with. As Guangzhou's most beloved Turkish establishment, Sultan is undoubtedly the best place to sample this delicacy, with numerous varieties to suit all manner of palates, from the traditional to the adventurous. In addition to pide, Sultan also offers guests some more traditional-style pizzas – all of which are worthy of a taste!

Summer House

Although not located in Guangzhou, this Foshan eatery has done a good job attracting attention from residents in both cities. With over a dozen options on the menu, the salami pizza does not disappoint with a crispy thin crust loaded with cheese and – as you would expect - salami. Seafood lovers should dive into the salmon pizza, crafted with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and imported Norwegian smoked salmon.
