May 14: That's PRD Live Reading Party

live-reading-cover1.jpg

We wrapped up our call for submissions on May 5, but the That’s PRD writing contest is far from over. There’s a party to be had, people.

We’d like to invite everyone in the PRD – those who submitted works, those who considered doing so and those who laughed out loud at the prospect – to come to The Paddy Field in Guangzhou on Saturday, May 14 at 7pm to join us in a live reading party!

The event will feature 12-16 finalists from the writing contest, who will be notified formally via email or phone in the next few days. Each will read his or her piece aloud in front of an audience and panel of swoon-worthy ‘judges,’ including longtime That’s PRD contributor and Urban Family editor Lena Gidwani, Insider TV sensation Kara Schroeder and journalism professor and Radio Guangdong host Matt Horn.

Audience members will also have a chance to vote for their favorite work and determine the Reader’s Choice winner. So finalists, bring plenty of sidekicks!

Stand-up comedian and co-founder of Dr. Panda Comedy Club Michael Dorsher will come up from Hong Kong to host the event, ensuring the passionate poetry readings and erotic short stories don’t get too, er, awkward.

Two live bands – Ian Garcia and The Paddy Field house musicians – will take the stage between readings. And, as always, no That’s PRD gig would be complete without a lucky draw featuring ridiculously rad prizes!

Reserve your spot today (there’s limited seating!) by sending your name and cell number to our official WeChat account: Thats_PRD. Finalists get in free.

May 14, 7pm; RMB60. The Paddy Field.
