With the Shenzhen edition of Budweiser Storm Music Festival kicking off in less than 24 hours, we decided to look back at our Storm Shanghai interview with the legendary Tiesto.

Although sadly, Tiesto will not be hitting the decks in Shenzhen this weekend, there will be plenty of talent on display (Afrojack anyone?).

Below is an excerpt from our October 3 rapid-fire interview with Tiesto:

What is it like to be back in China?

"I’m excited to play my first big show here, China is different and I’m a different person now. A long time ago I played a number of clubs in Shanghai and Beijing but this is my first big show."

What was it like collaborating with Chinese pop star Jane Zhang?

"It‘s very exciting to work with Jane because she can sing in both English and Mandarin. I look forward to performing with her tonight."

You recently played in Macao, which is a different beast than Chinese mainland, can you tell me a bit about performing in Macao compared to Chinese mainland?

"Well, the main difference is that Macao has a lot of tourists there. People come from all over the world to go there and everyone is in a party mood – people are there to party. Everyone is there for a good time and for entertainment, but Chinese mainland is lots of working people, people have regular jobs so it’s a bit of a different vibe I think. In Macao you see people from all over the world – that’s really the main difference."

We trust your show in Macao went well?

"It was amazing. It was last night so it wasn’t that long ago. It was really an amazing show and they told me the club had never been that busy before. The club was packed and I saw people from all over the world – it was amazing."

Do you know much about your Chinese fan base?

"I have no idea."

You have done a lot of charitable work for AIDS/HIV research and education, has any of your time been spent working on AIDS issues in China?

"No, I mainly did my charity work for AIDS in Africa, for the Dance4Life Project for schools in Africa. I visited a couple of schools there and it was great to see the program really works, educating kids to have safe sex."
