July 1: Canada Day at The Brew

Canada Day poster for The Brew

Canada's most holy day, after game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals, will be celebrated with prizes, party favors, and free Canadian cherry margaritas (if you wear red to the event). Event specials include RMB25 Moosehead beers, RMB25 Canadian Club and RMB25 cherry margaritas. The event will also feature live music.

July 1: Cornelia Herrmann

Growing up in an Austrian family of musicians, Cornelia Herrmann studied with Imre Rohmann in Salzburg, Noel Flores in Vienna and Ferenc Rados in Budapest. She was the youngest winner of the International J. S. Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1996. In 1999, she gained a special award at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg. Her recordings of the complete French Suites by J.S. Bach were released in 2013 and received great acclaim by the press. At this month’s concert, she will play Mozart, Rameau and Schumann for Guangzhou audience members.

July 1-5: Illustrations

Inviting 20 illustration majors from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts to create drawings for this special event, Goelia 225’s 6th anniversary exhibition is sure to dazzle guests of all ages. Head to Beijing Lu for a charming afternoon stroll through galleries and enjoy the local talent.

July 3-4: Jungle Party

Jungle party at Revolucion

Enjoy two nights of wild debauchery at Revolucion's Jungle Party, where free shots will be handed out to the best dressed jungle ladies.

July 3-4: Tel quel!

Tel quel! has been successful throughout the world since its creation in 2013. Led by Thomas Lebrun, one of the best-known French contemporary choreographers of his time, the performance is brought to you by the National Choreography Centre of Tours. By questioning our eternal relationship with the body (intimate, conflicting, generous, introverted and extroverted), the choreographer, with the help of his four dancers, reflects on sensitive subjects from early childhood.

July 4: Jazz Quartet from NYC

From New York City comes this lively group of four young musicians. 16-year-old Huang Ye of Shenzhen showed talent from a young age and later studied clarinet at Juilliard School and jazz saxophone at the Manhattan School of Music. Before moving to New York City, bass guitarist Alex Cliff, 22, learned from some of the world’s best musicians – Ron Carter, Gregg August and Ben Wolfe. Drummer Bryan Carter, 24, started playing professionally after graduating from Juilliard School and went on to cooperate with musicians such as Branford Marsalis, Mulgrew Miller, Ted Nash, and many more. Emmet Cohen on piano has been popular in NYC for a while, winning over countless fans with his creativity and mastery of the instrument.

July 5: Laurent Maur – Whisper on the Lips

French harmonica player Laurent Maur will perform at Guangzhou Opera House, together with Italian pianist Moreno Donadel. From pop music to jazz, world, Cuban and Latin, Maur does his best to capture the emotions of diverse music, which has motivated him since he was a child. Donadel started playing piano at the age of 9. A piano performance major in college, he worked as an arranger for BMG while cooperating with a number of musicians. Donadel has been living in Beijing, teaching jazz piano since 1998. The program scheduled by these two talented musicians includes ‘Made in France’, ‘Medley Movie Soundtrack’, ‘Dolphin Dance’ and more.

July 5: Berlin Philharmonic Brass Ensemble

Founded in the 1950s and emerging from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Brass stands for the highest level of international brass ensembles. In today’s world of music, where performances are conducted mainly by piano and string instruments, pure brass performance is a rare sight. Composed of 12 musicians, this group has developed a rapport among members through years of practice – not only because they are led by world-class conductors, but also because they continue to use German-made instruments to keep the band’s timbre in balance.
