As one of the first-generation sculptors in New China, Pan He’s artistic career practically spanned from the founding of New China to this day. His works closely follow the dynamic development of Chinese history, influencing a generation with exquisite and profound character modeling skills as well as a simple yet vivid artistic style while constituting a distinctive page in modern Chinese art history. Sculptures, such as Hard Times, Pioneering Bull and Zhuhai Fisher Girl, depicted the glorious journey of the Chinese people fighting for national liberation and building the country. His masterpieces have served as living footnotes of the country’s journey and have demonstrated national spirit.
The exhibition will display over 100 sculptures of the artist since the 1940s and artworks and literature from his early years, including watercolor paintings, oil paintings, diaries, and manuscripts, so as to thoroughly present Pan He’s art journey for more than seven decades. Through these materials, we want to study the ideas, ways of thinking, and artistic techniques of the first-generation artists of the new-founded China. We also want to explore the relationship between the artists’ views and society, as well as between the art theme and context of times.
