Our museum has a collection of high-quality Guangzhou handicrafts (referred to as "Guangzuo") represented by various categories such as Guangzhou ivory carving, Guangzhou embroidery, and Guangzhou color. Guangzuo has a long history and a profound maritime trade tradition, and once sailed from the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to the world. Since the 18th to 19th centuries, Guangzhou has become one of the central cities of the world trade system. "Guangzuo" carries the oriental aesthetic that the world yearns for, and is sold globally along trade routes. Its production, operation, and exports have driven the development of port cities in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao region. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, various industries of "Guangzuo" quickly recovered with strong government support. On the one hand, they used the Canton Fair to once again enter the world; On the other hand, representative "Guangzuo" products such as Guangcai and Guangxiu shawls have been produced or exported in Hong Kong and Macao for a long time.
In 2017, the construction of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area was upgraded to a national strategy, becoming an important support for China to build the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Reviewing the glorious history of the "Maritime Silk Road", singing the cultural chapter of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, a high degree of cultural identity and cultural self-confidence is an indispensable driving force for the development and growth of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. On the occasion of the coming of the "5.18" International Museum Day, we selected more than 50 pieces of "Guangzuo" museum collection, planned the exhibition "Haisi Brilliance, Bay Area Huazhang: Guangzuo as Foreign Trade Commodities", combed the historical context of representative "Guangzuo" commodities, presented the cultural essence of "Guangzuo", and hoped to inspire the public to identify with the historical context of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, strengthen cultural self-confidence, and provide assistance for shaping the humanistic spirit of the Bay Area.
