The northern white rhinoceros is one of the most critically endangered animals in the world. There are only two still alive. This is just one of many species that has been poached to near-extinction for its body parts. Every year, the United States recognizes September 4 as National Wildlife Day to celebrate Earth’s biodiversity and raise awareness for the many species suffering due to natural and manmade changes in the world today. This year, the American consulate in Guangzhou is hosting a representative from WildAid, a worldwide leader in raising awareness about endangered species, to discuss how WildAid works with influential public figures in China like Jackie Chan and Yao Ming to raise awareness about endangered species. To help illustrate their work, WildAid will also screen a short 45-minute documentary film about rhinos.
