Introduction by Didier Boschung, Consul General of Switzerland in Guangzhou

Guangzhou Driftings is indeed an expression of the city through personal visions, sensations, perceptions and thoughts of the Swiss artist herself and nine Chinese women from different backgrounds living in Guangzhou.

Visitors discover images as if they are wandering through various districts and streets of the city... The exhibition introduces a rich variety of mediums: photography, video, sound and text installations displayed across two halls of the Museum. One of these halls is transformed into a huge video dark room in which visitors are immersed at once in a very dense and sensory universe, full of colors, movements, rhythms, voices and sounds...

The second hall is occupied by photographical compositions where diptychs show faces (women portraits) deeply immersed in the environment, as osmosis between a character and the sense of place. These compositions are mixed with other photographs of cityscapes and urban scenes in a different format, displayed around the diptychs as counterpoint in dialogue - like free musical notes.

Guangzhou is indeed a megalopolis and yet Guangzhou Driftings enable visitors to develop an intimate relationship with this wonderful city which acts as a platform through which Switzerland and China interact with subtleties.

Venue: Guangdong Museum of Art, 2/F, Halls 6 & 8
