Jilin farmer makes 'anti riot device' that's just claws on a stick

A Jilin farmer named Xi Yuejiu has been raking in state media praise for his "antiriot device," which he's apparently been able to secure a national-level patent for. We're pretty sure it's just spikey claws on a stick.

Xi's invention, seen above, looks like it could be fairly useful for subduing a single psycho running about with a knife (as is apt to happen in China). It probably wouldn't work as well as a taser, and it would sure as hell be unwieldy to be walking around with this super-long metal claw stick, but hey - maybe it could work.

But a riot? Call us crazy, but it's pretty hard to picture this thing being very useful against more than one person. You could always, you know, thwack people over the head with it, but that's not really the point.

If an angry, riotous mob is approaching us the next time we're in Jilin, Xi's device probably wouldn't be the first thing we'd reach for. After all, it pretty much just looks like a grown up (read: made of metal, with sharp parts) version of this guy we had as kids:
