This week saw the kick off of the new season, the debuts of big money signgings Tim Cahill and Dario Conca and 11 goals in two games, including an eight-goal Shanghai derby thriller.

Shanghai SIPG vs Jiangsu Sainty

Saturday saw the visit of neighbors from Nanjing, Jiangsu Sainty, to Shanghai SIPG, and a large traveling contingent combined with a swelled home support saw a record 30,000 plus people at the Shanghai Stadium. The reds got off to a flying start too, going 2-0 up within 16 minutes. First Wang Shenchao broke down the right and squared the ball for Yu Hai to tuck it away at the front post. Then a perfectly weighted through ball from Argentine midfield maestro Dario Conca was suberbly taken down and dispatched by Swedish international Tobias Hysen. Jiangsu pulled one back before the break when Icelandic international striker Viðar Örn Kjartansson lost his marker at the back post. But despite some sustained pressure in the second half, and having a chance of their own cleared by some last ditch defending, SIPG held on for a 3 point start to the season.

Shanghai Shenhua vs Shanghai Shenxin

The big match of the weekend came on Sunday night and the Shenhua-Shenxin derby at a Hongkou Stadium buzzing with the arrival of Tim Cahill. But is was Paulo Henrique who was to make the headlines. The Brazilan striker gave Shenhua the lead on the half-hour mark after a spill from Shenxin keeper Zhang Xunwei. It was 2-0 ten minutes later when Shenxin's South Korean defender Lim You-Hwan headed into his own goal, and Colombian captain Giovanni Moreno made it three from the spot on the stroke of half time, only for Shenxin to pull one back in injury time with a well worked goal from Nigerian Daniel Chima Chukwu.

The second half saw Paulo Henrique bag his second after a wonderful drag-back turn in the box left his marker for dead. Shenxin then pulled a second back just two minutes later, again good build up this time finished by Chen Zhongliu. Paulo Henrique completed his hatrick with five minutes to go with a nice dink. And it was 6-2 deep into injury time when Zambian defender Stoppila Sunzu headed home from a corner.

Only one game in, but that goal haul puts Shenhua top of league.
