A man and a woman were swallowed whole by a sinkhole in Seoul recently after they alighted from a local bus, with the terrifying incident recorded in its entirely by the vehicle's CCTV.

In a video that's rapidly gone viral this week, the pavement crumbles belong the feet of the two pedestrians almost as soon as they exit the vehicle. Following their ten-foot descent into darkness, the pair were extricated by firefighters and taken to a nearby hospital having sustained only minor injuries.

Municipal authorities are currently investigating the cause of the sinkhole alongside the Korean Geotechnical Society. The sidewalk where the sinkhole appeared is located near a construction site where two apartment blocks are being built.

Having built up a reputation over the years as the sinkhole capital of the world, we're not sure if China should feel threatened by this strong South Korean contender or be comforted by the fact that this isn't the only place on Earth where the streets might at any point devour you, your loved ones and your property.
