A 68-year-old woman in Shenyang, Liaoning Province was viciously beaten in a local supermarket yesterday afternoon following an argument with another shopper.

The attack occured while the victim, surnamed Hu, and her assailant, surnamed Cheng, were both shopping at a Dadong District supermarket. Cheng, 33, was standing at the top of a staircase eating a snack and taking up half the passageway when Hu, accompanied by two other seniors, passed through.

Hu's shopping trolley clipped Cheng's glasses as they walked past and a quarrel started immediately - ending with Cheng straddling Hu's body and thrashing her head against the ground for over ten minutes while a crowd gathered around. By the time security arrived to break them up, Hu's head lay in a pool of blood.

As she beat the old woman, Cheng reportedly screamed into her face, "My glasses are more than RMB30,000! French! You couldn't pay them back with your life!"
